First devised by former American Vice-President Al Gore in his bestselling book “Earth in the Balance” the Global Marshall Plan Initiative is aiming at improved and binding frameworks for the global economy to create balance between economy, environment, society and culture. To achieve this the Global Marshall Plan combines a functional and coherent global governance structure with appropriate reforms and intelligent intelinking of UN, WTO, IMF, World Bank and ILO and UNEP standards with the raising of an additional 100 billion US$ a year in order to co-finance development. The Global Marshall Plan aims at a better design of globalization and of world economic processes in terms of a worldwide Ecosocial Market Economy, which meets the expectation of sustainability of economic as well as social and ecological policies. This involves an improved global structural framework including sustainable development, elimination of poverty, environmental protection and equity.

Scotland The world's protected areas are the greatest legacy we can leave to future generations - to ensure that our descendants have access to nature and all the material and spiritual wealth that it represents. The World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) is the world's premier network of protected area expertise. It is administered by the IUCN and has over 1,400 members, spanning 140 countries. WCPA works by helping governments and others plan protected areas and integrate them into all sectors; by providing strategic advice to policy makers; by strengthening capacity and investment in protected areas; and by convening the diverse constituency of protected area stakeholders to address challenging issues. CSVPA seeks to identify, define, and provide guidelines for managing the cultural and spiritual dimensions of protected areas. The IUCN WCPA Specialist Group on Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas was established in 1998 and changed status from a Task Force (4 year mandate) to a Specialist Group (permanent mandate) in 2009. The Specialist Group is composed of approximately 100 General Members from 24 countries. Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas:

We work in partnership with a variety of groups around the world. We support the work of grassroots organisations in the South, as well as representing NGOs at international forums such as at the United Nations and its various bodies in Geneva and Vienna, and work ceaselessly, with our partners, to put environmental and human rights issues on the international agenda and to work together to achieve our vision of an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable and equitable world. Since 2004 we represent one of our partners, the Planetary Association for Clean Energy (PACE) in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations Offices of Geneva and Vienna. 2010 Activities
